Prayer Update

30 May 2010

“I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” (Rom 15:30)

  • Easy English Ministry – Pray for wisdom as Simon and Steph Wong lead this ministry team. Pray that those who visit and attend regularly would come to trust and obey Jesus. Pray that they too would become part of this ministry team.
  • Tom & Mary in Capetown – Pray that they will be able to effectively serve the local church. Pray that they’ll persevere in their studies and not lose sight of the big picture: making disciples of all nations. Pray that they’ll not only grow in the knowledge of God but also in godliness.
  • Webb Family (Clint, Roslyn, Tim, Jeremy, Chris) – Praise that they’ll be able to disciple and train the first generation of Druze Christians to lead the Druze church in Lebanon. Pray for health for the boys and that pledged financial support would increase.
  • Community Groups – Pray that there will be strong commitment among community group members to build strong relationships, united around Jesus, his ministry and his mission.
  • Uni Students – Pray for those who start uni this year that they’ll keep putting Jesus first. Pray that they will make the most of this time to grow, be committed to church and be involved in ministry.
  • Families Pray for parents will continue modelling a Christ-centred life to their children despite the busyness and challenges of family life.
  • Emily, Sophie & Samantha – Pray that God will continue caring for them as a family and that they will be able to transition back into GracePoint church life.
  • A Spirit of Prayer – Pray that God will make us a church that humbly, passionately and persistently prays for his glory, his kingdom and his will to be done in our city.
  • Personal godliness – Pray for all who pastor and lead at GracePoint, that they might grow in godliness, humility and prayer. Pray that they will set a Christlike example for others to follow.
  • Thanksgiving – Praise God for every spiritual blessing we have in Jesus Christ (Eph 1:1-10). Thank God also for every material blessing he has given us and the freedom we have to worship Jesus without fear in this country.
  • Haiti & Chile earthquakes– Pray for the relief effort and the ongoing work of the evangelical churches in Chile. Pray also for the ongoing relief effort in Haiti and that the love of Christ and his saving message would continue to grow.
  • The Persecuted Church – Pray for those who suffer for the name of Christ, especially in many of the Muslim countries of the Middle East and North Africa. Pray for the Muslim/Christian conflict zones of Sudan and Nigeria.
  • Scripture in NSW – Pray that we will continue to have freedom to preach the gospel through School Scripture classes. Pray that the attempt at introducing Ethics classes will not hinder this.

  • Ben, Emily, Sophie & SamanthaBen passed away to be with the Lord on Thursday morning 26th Nov. Please pray for Emily, Sophie & Samantha, for comfort and strength, knowing that they will one day meet again, and that Christ is with them now. Pray also that their non-Christian family come to know Jesus.
  • Candles by Twilight Service – On Sunday 20th Dec, we will hold 5:30pm sausage sizzle, followed by a 7pm service. Please pray for our friends, family and the Burwood community whom we will invite to hear the message: ‘What does God want for Christmas?’
  • Christmas Day Service – Please pray for our family, friends and local community to hear ‘The Untold Ugly Story of Christmas’. This will be at 10am, Friday morning, Community & Cultural Centre.
  • Easy English Service – This is a outreach ministry reaching out to those for whom English is not their first language. Services are held every Sunday at 2:30pm in the Community Hall. Pray for newcomers who attend and for the relationships that will be built.
  • Ephesians Sermon Series – Pray that God’s will give us a deeper knowledge of his grace in Jesus and that this will be reflected in thankfulness to God, a love for others and a desire for God’s glory.
  • Community Groups 2010 – Pray for us as we plan and reorganise our small group ministry in order to build a culture of 1) Doing Life Together 2) Discipleship and 3) Multiplication. We want our Community Groups to be sharing our lives together and living these shared lives on mission together to the glory of God.
  • Pastoral team – Pray for the pastors, elders and leaders of GracePoint for godliness, humility, wisdom and prayer. Pray for both spiritual, emotional and physical health. Pray that we will have wisdom to lead under Jesus.
  • Site Search Team –Pray that God will provide us with a new site for our Burwood evening ministry. We need to find this new site before the end of 2010.
  • Lidcombe  Property Development – Thank God that the revised development application has been approved by Auburn council. Pray for the renovation and construction work which we hope will begin early next year. Pray for wisdom on how to best utilise the property, and ongoing funding needs.

Pray to the God who is able to heal, and that he will be their strength and refuge at this time. Pray that we (and especially the Auburn congregation) will know how to support them as a church community.
  • Easy English Service This is a new outreach ministry reaching out to those for whom English is not their first language. Services are held every Sunday at 2:30pm in the Community Hall. Pray for newcomers who attend and for the relationships that will be built.
  • HSC Study Lounge – Give thanks for all involved and for the HSC students who have come so far. Pray that we will build good friendships with them and that these students will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus.

  • Ephesians Sermon Series – Pray that God’s Holy Spirit will give us a deeper knowledge of his grace and that his grace will be reflected in thankfulness to God and love for others.
  • Cell Group Ministry – Pray for your current leaders and  for the raising up of new leaders for next year. Pray especially for wisdom for how to organise small group ministry next year, as we plan to do a general review and revamp of this ministry. The culture we want to promote in small groups next year is: 1) discipleship, 2) doing life together, 3) multiplication.
  • Pastoral team – Pray for all who pastor and lead at GracePoint for godliness, humility and prayer. Pray for both spiritual and physical health. Pray that we will have wisdom to lead under Jesus.
  • Site Search Team –Pray for Niroosha and the team as they begin looking for a new site for GracePoint Burwood ministry. Pray also for a site up north which we are looking at for a possible northern suburbs church plant.

Pray to the God who is able to heal and that he will be their strength and refuge at this time.   • Auburn sermon series – Pray for the preachers and the congregation as we preach a series on ‘Finding our confidence in God’s character’.
  • Burwood Outreach Services – Pray that we’ll take full advantage of inviting friends to this month’s ‘Close Encounters’ series. Pray that many more will come to know Jesus.
  • Local Outreach – Pray for follow up of the evangelistic dinner guests. We are inviting those who responded to an Afternoon Tea on 23rd Aug. Pray for Andrew Leung who is leading a small group through Exploring Christianity studies. Pray for James Truong who is leading the ‘HSC Lounge’ outreach to year 12 students.

  • Christians in Pakistan – On 1st Aug, 50 homes were burned, 7 Christians killed and 20 injured by rioting Muslims. Pray that they will entrust themselves to God, continue to love their enemies and that the security forces will protect them.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8)

  • Burwood Outreach – Pray that God will work through our letterbox drop over the next few weeks to connect with the community. As a church we will be doing a letterbox of the entire Burwood area. This will happen over two Saturdays, 4th and 11th July.
  • Short Term Mission in Thailand – Liam will be connecting with local Thai people on tour with a Christian soccer team. Pray for health and safety, team unity, and the planting of gospel seeds in people’s lives.
  • Short Term Mission in Malaysia – Michael & Jenny are part of an SMBC mission team in Malaysia. Pray for preparation in training and evangelism, a preaching conference at Bible colleges, the running of Christian groups at a boy, school, and partnership with the local church. Pray also for political stability in light of swine flu.
  • Short Term Mission in Mongolia – Danny & Renee are part of a mission team in Mongolia. Pray for preparation of the team, that God will soften the hearts of those they meet. Pray also for health and saftey.
  • North America (NA) Trip Eugene, Tom, Ying are in Toronto & NY seeking to develop the Ministry Apprentice Program in NA. Pray that God will bring them into contact with the people who will share this vision of training the next generation of pastors.
