About Us

Previously known as Burwood@Five, Gracepoint Burwood is the 5pm English congregation of the Burwood Chinese Presbyterian Church (BCPC), a member of the Presbyterian Church in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

In mid-1998, BCPC’s board of elders recognized that they needed to meet the needs of second generation Australian Born or Raised Chinese, children of those in their morning Cantonese Congregation. Subsequently, the later half of 1998 saw preparations for an English congregation with the establishment of a core group of 30 who shared the vision for this new congregation.

IMG_1995February 1999 saw the commencement of our first evening meeting at Burwood. The months that followed was a challenging one for a young congregation with limited people resources. A variety of needs had to be met which stretched the core group especially in the area of music and leadership. The aim in the first year was to establish and consolidate the congregation which was made possible with the support of BCPC’s board of elders and Cantonese congregation both financially and spiritually. By the end of 1999, Gracepoint Burwood had an average of 60 people attending regularly with small cell groups and several worship in song teams.

IMG_1701In 2003 with average weekly attendances at 100, a vision was cast to be a church without walls – to plant new centres, taking the gospel all over Sydney and beyond. 2005 saw the start of a new centre, Gracepoint Auburn, a new morning English service coming out of Burwood. This was the first step in the realization of a vision to see the gospel go out beyond the walls of our church in planting churches across our city.
